Jacksonville-based Southeastern Grocers LLC Thursday announced an agreement to sell 29 Bi-Lo supermarkets in Tennessee and Georgia to K-VA-T Food Stores Inc., which operates a supermarket chain called Food City.

Southeastern Grocers operates the Winn-Dixie and Harveys chains, in addition to Bi-Lo. The company has 790 grocery stores in eight Southeastern states.

Abingdon, Va.-based K-VA-T operates 104 stores in three states, mostly under the Food City banner. The company said the 29 Bi-Lo stores in the Chattanooga and Northwest Georgia markets will become Food City stores.

“We are pleased to enter into this transaction with K-VA-T, which we believe is the right decision not only for Southeastern Grocers, but also for our stores and associates in Chattanooga and Northwest Georgia,” Southeastern Grocers CEO Ian McLeod said in a news release.

Terms of the deal were not announced.
