For 10 years, pro bono attorneys and paralegals have come together to provide a much-needed service for the community by volunteering with The Missing Link of Jacksonville Inc.
The nonprofit is committed to assisting victims of domestic violence fill out paperwork necessary to legally sever their abusive relationships. The goal of Missing Link is to break the chain of domestic violence.
A dedicated group of volunteers from Missing Link assists victims who are in real danger in their own homes.
Normal community assistance falls short of helping these victims permanently leave their abusive relationships, specifically, the filing of divorce proceedings.
The lack of help in obtaining a divorce is the “missing link.”
Volunteers, by providing assistance, enable victims to act on their own behalf and break the final chain after making the decision to leave their abusers.
Without this additional assistance, many of these victims are left without financial or other support and have no choice but to return to their abusive and violent relationships.
Pro bono attorneys and paralegals are needed to volunteer their services to this very worthwhile and rewarding effort. Once a month in the evening, volunteers meet to assist victims who are identified as legitimately needing these services by victims assistance specialists.
These specialists coordinate with the victims and Missing Link through the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
The specific location is communicated to the victims and volunteers, but is not publicized to help ensure safety.
If you have a few hours each month or would like to support Missing Link with a financial donation, please call Natalie Tuttle at (904) 680-7644 or email the nonprofit at [email protected].
Together we can help break the chain and end domestic violence.
