Ed Burr elected 2015-16 chairman of the Jacksonville Civic Council

Longtime developer Edward “Ed” Burr will lead the Jacksonville Civic Council for 2015-16.

Civic Council members elected Burr to the position, effective Jan. 1. He will hold the title through Dec. 31, 2016.

Burr, a past chair of the JAX Chamber, is president and CEO of GreenPointe Holdings LLC, a diversified holding company that develops sustainable communities throughout the Southeast U.S.

“It is a great honor to assume the chairmanship of the Civic Council. The civic engagement and commitment to Jacksonville of this group of 70 men and women is a powerful catalyst for progress,” Burr said in a news release.

He said the group will continue to focus on “difficult, long-term issues” and wants to work with other organizations “to maximize impact and success.”

The Jacksonville Civic Council was formed in 2010. It is a private group of business and civic leaders who “promote a fiscally responsible, economically vibrant, thriving community, which offers opportunity for all its residents.” Its website is jaxciviccouncil.com.

Its task forces have reported on the city budget, pensions and Northbank redevelopment. It also is studying medical and life sciences. Reports are on the website.

Burr also serves as chair of the JAX Chamber’s Government Affairs Committee. He serves on the Jacksonville Transportation Authority board and was chair in 2012 and 2013.

Among his many other board and community positions, he founded the Monique Burr Foundation for Children, which is committed to the prevention of child abuse.

  • John Delaney, president of the University of North Florida
  • Fred Franklin, managing director of the Rogers Towers law firm
  • Nat Glover, president of Edward Waters College
  • Steve Halverson, president and CEO of Haskell and immediate past chairman of the Civic Council
  • Rusty Newton, president of Timucuan Asset Management
  • Hap Stein, chairman and CEO of Regency Centers Corp.
  • Ronald Townsend, Townsend and Associates
  • Susie Wiles, Right Coast Strategies.
