CSX Corp. on Wednesday announced that Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Oscar Munoz was promoted to president of the Jacksonville-based railroad company.
Michael Ward will remain chairman and chief executive officer. Ward, 64, had also held the role of president since taking over the top spot in 2003.
Munoz, 56, has been with CSX since 2003 and been chief operating officer since January 2012. He will remain chief operating officer.
“Oscar’s insights and experience in his critical CSX roles over the past 12 years, combined with his extensive executive experience at major multinationals before joining our company, position CSX to capitalize on a dynamic global market and growing demand for freight rail services, today and into the future,” Ward said in a news release.
In his new role, Munoz will be overseeing operations, sales and marketing, human resources, service design and information technology.
CSX also said Vice President and Chief Transportation Officer Cindy Sanborn was promoted to the position of executive vice president-operations. Sanborn has been with CSX for more than 25 years.
CSX has three other executive vice presidents on its senior management team: Chief Financial Officer Fredrik Eliasson, Chief Commercial Officer Clarence Gooden and General Counsel and Corporate Secretary Ellen Fitzsimmons.
CSX last month completed a reorganization of its headquarters operations which included 298 employees accepting buy-outs and 52 employees losing their jobs involuntarily.
The company employs about 3,600 people in Jacksonville, including the headquarters staff and field personnel.
