Michael Higer is Florida Bar president-elect designate

Miami attorney Michael Higer is The Florida Bar’s president-elect designate.

He will be sworn in as president-elect at the Bar’s annual convention in June when William Schifino Jr. of Tampa will be sworn in as president.

Higer is a partner of Berger Singerman’s dispute resolution team and is an experienced trial lawyer with a concentration in commercial litigation and civil trial work.

He was elected to Bar’s Board of Governors in 2008, representing the 11th Circuit. He is currently on the Executive Committee and the Strategic Planning Committee.

Higer also is chairing the Program Evaluation Committee, which reviews Bar programs and must approve new initiatives.

This past summer he was appointed by Schifino to serve on a special committee to work with the upcoming state Constitution Revision Commission.

Higer is a member of The Florida Bar Business Law Section, Family Law Section, Labor and Employment Law Section and Trial Lawyers Section.

He also is an active member of the Fellows of the American Bar Association.

Higer focuses his practice on commercial litigation including insurance, real estate, intellectual property and debtor/creditor matters.

He is admitted to practice in Florida and the District of Columbia and before the U.S. Supreme Court, U.S. 11th Circuit Court of Appeal, U.S. Federal Circuit Court of Appeal and the U.S. District Courts for the Southern, Middle and Northern districts of Florida.

Born in Miami Beach, Higer earned a bachelor’s degree in 1982 from the University of Florida and his law degree with honors in 1985 from the University of Miami School of Law, where he served as the executive editor of the Law Review.
