How did you become involved?
Leya was diagnosed with leukemia in October 2013 and she received a bone marrow transplant in February 2014. Leya is cancer-free and slowly recovering. Leukemia and Lymphoma Society has been a tremendous resource for us personally and in the fight to find a cure for blood cancers.
How can someone else become involved?
Every year, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society hosts Light the Night at the Jacksonville Landing to raise awareness and money for the society. It’s fun walking with a huge crowd over the bridges at night for a good cause.
What have you learned/achieved through the experience?
I started a blog to chronicle the enormous challenges facing Leya’s treatment and recovery (lparkerblog.com) and the process of writing has given me perspective on what truly matters in life.
What was the last book you read or are reading?
“Spring Chicken: Stay Young Forever (or Die Trying),” by Bill Gifford
