Circuit Judge Tyrie W. Boyer usually is the one doing the summoning, but on Tuesday, it was he who was appearing in court.
The occasion was the presentation of a resolution from the 1st District Court of Appeal honoring the life and career of his late father, Tyrie A. Boyer. The elder Boyer served as a judge in the Civil Court of Record, Circuit Court and 1st District Court of Appeal.
The resolution, “spread upon the official minutes of the Florida Conference of District Court of Appeal Judges,” recounted the elder Boyer’s life and career as a member of the Bar and bench.
“We are consoled by remembering our departed colleague’s contributions to the administration of justice, the legal profession and the community at large,” the resolution states.
The elder Boyer died in December at age 89.
The document also pointed out that as a youngster on the family farm in Levy County, the man who would become a judge developed a reputation as “the fastest picker of black-eyed peas in the area.”
