Howe retires as World Affairs Council chairman, Cook is successor

After six years of leading the World Affairs Council of Jacksonville, Jonathan Howe has retired as chairman of the board and is succeeded by Sandy Cook.

Howe is a retired Navy admiral. Cook has been a consultant and human resources executive and has served as president of the Women’s Giving Alliance, an initiative of The Community Foundation in Jacksonville, and as chair of the WJCT board of trustees.

She also has been vice chair of the World Affairs Council, among other community leadership roles.

The 1,000-member council concluded its program year in a wrap-up meeting June 12.

The group also announced three new at large members of the board:

• Scott Baker, president and CEO, Paul Davis Restoration Inc.

• Veronica Maybury, senior vice president, U.S. Trust, Bank of America Private Wealth Management.

• Lucy Reep, director of marketing, Adecco Group North America.

The World Affairs Council is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that sponsors public programs to explore international events and issues.

Its programs include the Global Business Luncheons at The River Club and the Global Issues Evenings at the University of North Florida University Center as well as other events.

The World Affairs Council of Jacksonville was formed in 1985 as the National Interest Forum and joined the World Affairs Councils of America in 1995.
