CarMax is preparing the site it owns at 7438 Blanding Blvd. for a second Jacksonville automotive superstore.
In April, CEO Tom Folliard said in a quarterly conference call with market analysts that the company would open the new Jacksonville store in the fourth quarter of its fiscal year, which is December-February.
On Friday, the City approved demolition of existing car sales, office and garage operations at the 4.9-acre site.
Duval County property records show that CarMax bought the property in June 2011 for $3 million.
CarMax, based in Richmond, Va., is the nation’s largest used-car retailer. It opened its first Jacksonville store in 2005 along Atlantic Boulevard.
