How did you get involved?
I played volleyball on scholarship for Appalachian State University, and the opportunity for volleyball athletic scholarships is primarily through participation in a club volleyball program. After law school I had some free time and realized I missed playing volleyball. I began looking for opportunities to play, and found out JJVA allowed people to use its facilities. Eventually, I discovered that its club program was growing exponentially and needed coaches. Since I began coaching, JJVA has expanded from a handful of regional and national teams to opportunities for all ages, including a budding boys program.
How can someone else get involved?
You can contact Adis Imamovic at 625-2511 or Janice Pressley at 874-2963 or visit www.jjva.com.
What have you learned/achieved through the experience?
One of the highlights of coaching is watching the kids progress through months of hard work. Many of these kids are in the gym for hours on a daily basis, working not only during their scheduled team practices, but also asking for individual lessons and strength training. Seeing their love for the sport develop and the dedication they have (many at a very young age) is amazing.
What was the last book you read or are reading?
I just finished “Robinson Crusoe” by Daniel Defoe.
