Stutsman & Thames relocates

The law firm of Stutsman & Thames has moved to new offices in the Bank of America and is now Stutsman, Thames & Markey, P.A. Attorneys Cynthia Norgart and Aaron Honaker have also joined the firm.

Opening the doors

The law office of Lewis, Longman & Walker, P.A. will hold a ribbon cutting of their new offices in the St. Joe Building May 16 at 5 p.m. A reception will follow. The firm focuses on land use, environmental and governmental issues.

Legal summer camp for high schoolers

The University of North Florida’s Legal Studies Institute is hosting a legal summer camp July 19-21 for high school kids age 14-18. The FutureNOW! day camp costs $245 and starts at 9 a.m. each day. The camp will consist of informal, interactive sessions covering topics such as preparation for college and law school as well as the different types of law. A panel of judges, lawyers and paralegals will hold and question and answer session and there will be trip to the county courthouse, Jacksonville Area Legal Aid and other firms. Drug Court Month attracts Florida leaders

Chief Judge Donald Moran will host Gov. Jeb Bush, Florida Chief Justice Barbara Pariente and Justice Peggy Quince for the Fourth Judicial Circuit’s Drug Court graduation ceremony. Scheduled for May 17 at 3:30 p.m. at the County Courthouse, the graduation will also be broadcast live statewide. May is National Drug Court Month. The designation aims to increase awareness of the programs, which take an innovative approach to non-violent offenders in the court system that have problems with drugs. The Fourth Circuit Drug Court has provided treatment for adults since 1994, juveniles since 1997 and dependency since 2003.

Jacksonville honors Jurist of the Year

Spohrer Wilner Maxwell and Matthews of counsel Roger Dodd gladly interrupted his presentation to the Florida Chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers in Tampa Friday to allow Florida Chief Justice Barbara Pariente to receive the AAMA’s Jurist of the Year Award. Dodd, has argued in front of Pariente and said the chief justice criticized his presentation as “tough to follow.” Dodd said the presentation to Pariente was “a fitting punishment for me.”

The Crown Plaza will host the “Growth and Water Supply – Is There a Crisis?” seminar May 18 and it’s worth 6 professional development hours as well as 7.5 CLE credits. There’s a meet and greet from 8:30 a.m.-9 when the various talks will start. John Fumero and Erin Deady of Lewis Longman & Walker are two of the scheduled speakers. Several South Florida water management officials will also be on hand.

Federal Bar dinner honors judges

(correction) The Jacksonville Chapter of the Federal Bar Association’s June 8 dinner will celebrate career milestones for several District Court judges. The dinner will honor Judge Harvey Schlesinger taking senior status, Judge Timothy Corrigan reaching 10 years on the bench and Magistrate Judge Howard Snyder reaching 25 years on the bench. The dinner will also welcome District Judge Virginia Covington to Jacksonville. She is transferring from Ft. Myers’ district court. RSVP by May 25 to the FBA at 1301 Riverplace Blvd., Suite 1916. Reception starts at 6 p.m. followed by dinner.
