Trial lawyer named ‘of counsel’ for firm
Florida trial lawyer Howard M. Talenfeld has become “of counsel” for Zisser, Robison, Brown, Nowlis & Maciejewski, P.A. A partner with the Ft. Lauderdale law firm Colodny, Fass, Talenfeld, Karlinsky & Abate, P.A., Talenfeld recently received The Florida Bar President’s Pro Bono Service Award for the 17th Judicial Circuit, Broward County. Talenfeld will continue his work with Zisser attorney Brian J. Cabrey representing children that have been injured while in foster care. Cabrey and Talenfeld represented more than a dozen foster children who were physically or sexually abused while in state care, including the three Ohio children who were caged by their “foster/adoptive” parents. Prior to joining the Zisser firm Cabrey was a Senior Attorney and Assistant General Counsel for DCF. In 2002, Talenfeld founded Florida’s Children First, a statewide not-for-profit advocacy Organization that helps ensure foster children have appropriate legal representation for educational, health and mental health care and developmental services needs.
Bar seeking volunteer examiners
The Florida Board of Bar Examiners needs volunteers for a three-year term. The Board ensures that applicants meet the Supreme Court’s rules relating to Bar admissions. Lawyers are not eligible to volunteer, and a bachelor’s degree is required. Volunteers need to have education or work-related experience that will help them determine each applicant’s eligibility. Volunteers will devote up to three days a month to their examiner’s duties, which include traveling to various Florida locations. Travel and related expenses will be reimbursed. Applications are due June 9. They can be found online at www.floridabarexam.org and mailed to Eleanor M. Hunter, Executive Director, Florida Board of Bar Examiners, 1891 Eider Court, Tallahassee, Fla. 32399. Call (850) 487-1292 for more information.
Young Republicans to gather
The Jacksonville Young Republicans meeting at Fontana’s Restaurant March 28, will feature speaker Max Linn, president and founder of Florida Citizens for Term Limits. In the ongoing fight over term limits, Linn was at the forefront of the battle against a 1999 Supreme Court challenge to existing law in Florida. Linn’s support of term limits was reignited in April 2005 when members of the Florida House and Senate passed a proposal calling for an extension of term limits from 8-12 years. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. For more information contact co-president, Grier Lyall, at [email protected].
