A major pro-am will be held here this summer and the organizers hope for 100 four-person teams from throughout the Southeast.
The PGA Tour Stop Invitational will be July 30 through August 3 and it’s an extensive offering: four courses, five nights at the World Golf Village hotel and all meals. The price is $2,795 per player.
“We think the price is very reasonable when you consider what you get,” said Mike Jaworski, the Tour Stop’s general manager and organizer of the event. “There aren’t many tournaments like this.
“We think it’s going to be so good that people will go back to their clubs and tell others, and we’ll have more in 2003.”
The field will play four courses: both at the WGV, the TPC Stadium and Ocean Hammock in Palm Coast. The total purse can be as much as $100,000 depending on the entry.
Jaworski said that deals had been made with BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Infiniti and Lexus to provide hole-in-one cars: “Every player will have 16 shots at a car,” he said.
The event centers around the WGV and players will have dinners at the Murray Bros/Caddyshack restaurant and in the Hall of Fame. If Sam Snead’s Tavern reopens by then, they’ll also go there.
Amateurs also will receive a $150 gift certificate at the Tour Stop, the WGV’s largest store.
