UF Health plans a third free-standing emergency department in Jacksonville, extending its reach for ER services to three stand-alone locations.

“Our focus is on providing the best clinical care to citizens in our service area in the most efficient way possible,” said Steve Wylie, director of development for UF Health Jacksonville.

“We are currently and will continue to evaluate the market for additional locations to meet that need,” he said in an emailed statement Sept. 14.

UF Health spokesman Dan Leveton confirmed the standalone ER centers for Baymeadows, the latest, and in west and northwest Jacksonville.

They are planned at:

• 11251 Lamb Tail Lane in the Baymeadows area.

• 888 Lane Ave. S. in West Jacksonville.

• 6765 Dunn Ave. in Northwest Jacksonville.

Leveton previously acknowledged the Dunn Avenue center.

Baymeadows

The Baymeadows location is at 11251 Lamb Tail Lane in Campfield Commons.

Leveton said completion is expected toward the end of 2022.

“That’s a growing part of the market in our service area and will help us serve more patients in the Southside/Baymeadows/nearby areas,” he said.

The city is reviewing a permit application for construction of an estimated $6 million free-standing ER there. The 12,490-square-foot facility, with 900 square feet of unenclosed space, is planned on 1.96 acres along Baymeadows Road, east of Interstate 295.

The architect is e4h Environments for Health Architecture LLC of Fort Worth, Texas.

The developer is Rendina Healthcare Real Estate of Solana Beach, California. The tenant is University of Florida Health.

Plans show seven treatment rooms, trauma areas, office and lab space, five fast-track rooms, CT scan and radiology rooms, and other areas.

West Jacksonville

The West Jacksonville location is at 888 Lane Ave. S.

Completion is expected in September 2022.

The city is reviewing a building-permit application for UF Health to develop an 11,716-square-foot center on almost 1.2 acres at northwest Lane Avenue and Grace Lane.

No contractor is listed for the estimated $6 million project. Salim Kassab is the property owner of the site, a former Ameris Bank branch built in 2008.

The architect is E4H Environments for Health Architecture.

The Lane Avenue permit application describes the project as a ground-up free-standing emergency department to provide 24-hour emergency medical treatment and urgent care.

It will contain 10 exam rooms and trauma/resuscitation, CT scan and X-ray rooms as well as support, mechanical, administrative and public areas.

Northwest Jacksonville

The Northwest Jacksonville center is at 6765 Dunn Ave.

Completion is expected in August 2022.

Concurrency plans filed with the city show a 12,430-square-foot free-standing emergency clinic on 1.52 acres, although UF Health is not identified.

The site is in the Dunn Village shopping center at Dunn Avenue and New Kings Road/U.S. 1 in the Dinsmore area

In May, Leveton confirmed that the medical system intended to build its first free-standing emergency department along Dunn Avenue, but did not have the specific address.

The centers will be an outpatient department of UF Health Jacksonville.

UF Health Jacksonville in Springfield is the largest UF campus outside of Gainesville.

UF Health Jacksonville comprises the academic health center, UF Health North in North Jacksonville, the UF Health Science Center and the UF Health Jacksonville Physicians Inc. network of primary and specialty care centers in Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia.

It opened the UF Health Wildlight medical office complex in Yulee in Nassau County.

When UF Health Jacksonville North began building at Max Leggett Parkway, it led with a stand-alone emergency department in 2015, which was converted into a hospital emergency room when the patient tower was constructed in 2017.

UF Health operates two free-standing ERs in Gainesville and one in The Villages.
