The Church of Eleven22 filed plans for a $15 million expansion of its San Pablo campus — $13 million more than its $2 million build-out of the property in 2012.
The church will expand into the former Hobby Lobby store next door and build a 3,000-seat worship space for its main services, said Shawn Maxwell, the church’s executive director of operations.
The former Hobby Lobby space is 55,000 square feet. The church bought the property at 14286 Beach Blvd. from Sleiman Enterprises in 2017. Hobby Lobby relocated to the Town Center area the same year.
The new worship space will have 1,000 additional seats to accommodate the church’s growth since it opened seven years ago. Maxwell said more than 11,000 people attend Sunday services across the five campuses.
The Church of Eleven22 operates campuses in San Pablo, Arlington, Baymeadows, Mandarin and Fleming Island.
Bradley Bowen Construction is the project contractor.
The existing worship center will be converted into additional space for children, students and people with special needs.
“There is a large focus on one more generation,” Maxwell said. “Creating these kids’ environments and these student environments and these special needs environments are a big part of what we’re doing.”
The church also plans to open a North Jacksonville campus at 418 Starratt Road in the Oceanway Crossing shopping center. The 38,463-square-foot space is a former Food Lion grocery store that closed in 2012.
There’s no confirmed opening date at the North Jacksonville campus, Maxwell said.
According to released financial statements, The Church of Eleven22’s net assets in 2018 were $17.5 million, compared with $15 million the year before.
In 2015, Outreach Magazine ranked Church of Eleven22 as the third-fastest growing church in the country.
