St. Johns County granted a building permit March 16 for Buc-ee’s Florida LLC, a Texas-based convenience store chain that wants to build a 104-pump station off Interstate 95.
Buc-ee’s plans a 53,254-square-foot convenience store, a pump station and 392 parking spaces at 200 World Commerce Parkway, which is at the southwest I-95 and International Golf Parkway interchange.
J. Raymond Construction of Longwood is the general contractor for the $15.26 million project.
Site grading and utility work started Nov. 1
Buc-ee’s General Counsel Jeff Nadalo said in November that store construction takes 13 to 14 months, depending on weather and soil conditions.
Buc-ee’s bought the 13.71-acre site in November 2017. St. Johns County approved plans for improvements to International Golf Parkway and World Commerce Parkway on Oct. 23.
The county approved horizontal development Oct. 28 for the store, three fuel canopies comprising 52,948 square feet and two 120,000-gallon underground fuel tanks.
Asked if Buc-ee’s plans another store in Northeast Florida, Nadalo said the nearest location to the St. Johns site is in Daytona and the company typically locates stores at least 90 miles apart.
