Smallcakes Cupcakery & Creamery – Jacksonville intends to open a second Jacksonville location with a 1,400-square-foot shop at 13740 Beach Blvd. in Pablo Creek Plaza East, which is near the Super Target at southeast Beach and Hodges boulevards.
Franchise owner Stacie Smith said Dec. 6 she intends to open in February 2022.
“We received a lot of requests from individual and business customers to have a location in that area to help celebrate all their special occasions from birthdays, events, to weddings and for everyday gourmet desserts and ice cream with their family and friends,” Smith said by email.
She said the first area store opened in 2016 at 13141 City Station Drive, Suite 145, in River City Marketplace in North Jacksonville.
There could be more.
“We are focused on getting the second location opened now, and hope to keep growing within the Jacksonville community,” she said.
The chain sells cupcakes, ice cream and brownies from more than 180 locations in more than 25 states.
It says its stores bake and frost 18 signature and special flavors every morning, made from scratch.
Signature flavors include Pink Vanilla, Pink Chocolate, Chocoholic, Lemon Drop, Wedding Cake, Red Velvet and Peanut Butter Cup.
After appearances on the Food Network’s “Cupcake Wars” seasons one, two and seven as well as on the “The View” daytime talk show, Smallcakes was in demand.
Its slogan is “Maybe a Cupcake Will Help?” and the chain has been growing worldwide.
QSRmagazine.com reported Sept. 14 that The Derbyshire Group. bought Smallcakes Cupcakery and Creamery.
The magazine said that founder Jeff Martin opened 13 years ago in Overland, Kansas.
Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed. The magazine said a new team has been assembled to grow Smallcakes globally, while Martin will continue as an adviser as he pursues new concepts.
The Derbyshire Group, which has investments in Slim Chickens, Rock and Roll Sushi, Island Wing Company, Bold Brands and others, operates as the family office for Ryan D. Jumonville.
The company has business interests in the U.S. and 136 countries.
State records show Jumonville is manager of Smallcakes Holdings LLC of Destin. It was registered with the state in June.
The city issued a permit Dec. 7 for Ladson Construction of Jacksonville to build-out a 1,400-square-foot store for Smallcakes at Pablo Creek Plaza East at a cost of $160,000.
Smith said brokers Brandy Lewis and Andre Bahri, co-founders of Platinum Realty Group, represented Smallcakes Cupcakery in the lease negotiations at Pablo Creek Plaza East.
The Shopping Center Group partner and Senior Vice President Stephanie McCullough and Vice President Kelly Pulignano represent the landlord.
