Regal Cinemas in River City Marketplace in North Jacksonville is closed.
The theater is in review for demolition to make way for BJ’s Wholesale Club.
On Aug. 27, the theater’s exterior lights were on but the now playing posters were removed. The theater is no longer listed on the Regal website.
The 14-screen Regal River City Marketplace at 12884 City Center Blvd. was built in 2006 on 9 acres.
Property owner Ramco Jacksonville LLC applied to the city for a permit to demolish the 63,810-square-foot theater building at a cost of $247,000.
Able Construction Inc. of Jacksonville is the contractor. JAA Architecture of Jacksonville is the architect.
Ramco Jacksonville LLC filed civil engineering plans with the city July 27 to replace the Regal with the proposed 103,005-square-foot wholesale club.
Regal has one remaining theater in Northeast Florida, the Regal Avenues at 9525 Philips Highway in The Avenues mall area.
