Pending approval, Scramblers will renovate a former clothing store and card shop in Deerwood Village Mall for a 140-seat breakfast-lunch restaurant as the first of five planned by the Ohio restaurant company.
Skyline Construction Inc. is shown as the contractor for the $550,414 job to renovate 3,318 square feet of space at 9940 Old Baymeadows Road.
The address previously was Clothes Mentor and, before that, Trudy’s Hallmark.
Codes-ABC Inc. is handling code compliance review. OX Studio Inc. of Ann Arbor, Michigan, is the architect.
The 140 seats comprise booths, banquette booths, four-top tables and six-top tables.
Scramblers Director of Franchising Kelly Buerk said June 30 the Toledo-based company is committed to open five restaurants in the Jacksonville area.
The first two at Deerwood village Mall and at 1500 University Blvd W. in Lakewood South could open in August, according to Scramblersrestaurants.com.
They will be first two Scramblers in Florida and are corporate-owned.
“Florida is a dynamite area for a Scramblers,” Buerk said.
Colliers Senior Associate Jason K. Hinson represents Scramblers in the area.
He said Scramblers will look for more sites, including in Duval and St. Johns counties.
Scramblers has 24 locations in Ohio and two in Michigan. It is franchising to expand.
It operates 6:30 a.m.- 3 p.m. daily. The menu includes breakfast and lunch, including omelets, egg dishes, pancakes, sandwiches, salads and more.
