Artist Anthony Whiting was the guest exhibitor at the “Old Florida” networking mixer hosted by Florida Bank’s Downtown Branch on West Bay Street Tuesday afternoon.

Whiting brought one of his series of pelican paintings and he’s selling limited edition signed prints of the work to benefit The Nature Conservancy.

“I love the wildlife in this area, especially the birds,” he said. “Pelicans are one of my favorite creatures. They’re so prehistoric.”

Whiting said he was motivated to donate a portion of the price of each print sold to the conservation organization. “Every day we see our poor pelicans drenched in oil. This might be a way to help them.”

Florida Bank is gaining a reputation as a networking site. The bank is a regular stop on the First Wednesday Art Walk and usually hosts at least one other gathering each month.

“It gains exposure for the Downtown branch and it’s a way to be part of the neighborhood,” said Tanya Guydos, branch manager.
