Landlord Worth Turner said Aug. 13 that his group is searching for another tenant to replace Bold Bean Coffee Roasters at 1905 Hendricks Ave. in San Marco.

“Bold Bean was a great addition to the San Marco community, we’ve appreciated them as tenants the last 5 years and know they will be missed,” Turner said in an emailed statement.

“They chose not to renew their lease so we will be searching for another locally owned business for the space that will be an enjoyment for the community,” Turner said.

Bold Bean Coffee Roasters President Zack Burnett said Aug. 14 the location did not generate enough revenue, but declined to elaborate.

It leases about 2,000 square feet of space and seats about 40, he said.

Bold Bean posted on Facebook Aug. 13 that it was closing at the end of September when its lease expires. Burnett expects Sept. 26 to be the last day.

“We had to make the unfortunate decision, this week, to close our San Marco shop by the end of September when our lease runs out,” said the Facebook page.

“We thank everyone who has ever been a part of or supported that shop in any way.”

It invited customers to visit the shop “these next handful of weeks and in our Riverside or Jax Beach locations after that.”

Hours are 6:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Friday and 7 a.m.-4 p.m. on weekends.

Burnett said Bold Bean does not have any immediate plans to move to a new location.

He said the nine employees likely will move on.

“I’m hoping they’ll all be able to find something else before we close,” he said.

“That’s why we announced it so early. They’re an amazing staff. Anyone would be very fortunate to have any of them.”

He said Bold Bean will close before Sept. 26 if staffing becomes an issue.

The shop shares a building with Turner Plumbing Co. LC Turner LLC owns the property.

The coffee shop, which also sells food, beer and wine, has faced parking challenges. It has about 15-20 parking spaces.

Burnett’s father, Jay, began roasting coffee in 2007 and the father and son opened their first shop in 2011 at 969 Stockton St. in Riverside, followed by the second in 2014 at 2400 S. Third St. in Jacksonville Beach, and the third in 2016 at the San Marco address.

The company identifies, tests, buys and roasts coffee beans from the world’s coffee-growing regions. It sells brewed and packaged coffee, food, merchandise and equipment in the retail and wholesale markets.
