A First Coast Flyer Green Line station opened Sept. 28 at the new KIPP Voice Academy in North Jacksonville.
The project began in January 2020 when KIPP Jacksonville Public Schools leased 8 acres at 813 Golfair Blvd. from the Jacksonville Transportation Authority.
The 73,500-square-foot school was built for 700 students. The First Coast Flyer station in front of the campus provides mass transit access for the Brentwood neighborhood. The Green Line runs from the Jacksonville Regional Transportation Center at LaVilla Downtown to the Armsdale Park-n-Ride center along Lem Turner Road.
“The JTA is proud to support and enhance the Brentwood neighborhood through this Transit-Oriented Development with KIPP Jacksonville. With a direct connection to the First Coast Flyer Green Line, students, faculty, staff, and their families will have better access to high-quality educational resources and improved mobility throughout the corridor,” JTA CEO Nat Ford said in a news release.
The new campus for KIPP Jacksonville increases its enrollment to 2,050 students and allows for growth. KIPP operates four schools on three campuses in Jacksonville.
“We’re committed to learning more about our Brentwood neighbors and contributing to the positive work happening here already,” said Jennifer Brown, KIPP Jacksonville executive director.
