John Bachman, a television news anchor from Atlanta, will be joining Action News this fall.
Bachman is from CMG’s Channel 2 WSB-TV in Atlanta, where he started as weekend anchor seven years ago. In 2011, he was promoted to co-anchor of the 4 p.m. weekday newscast.
“We were looking for the right person to fill the anchor role at WAWS/WTEV,” said Jim Zerwekh, vice president and general manager for WAWS TV-30 and WTEV TV-47.
The television stations recently did not renew the contracts of five anchors: Mike and Tera Barz, Lynnsey Gardner, Paige Kelton and Mark Spain.
Bachman grew up in a newsroom where his father had been an anchor for more than 30 years.
He graduated from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn., and be-gan his television news career as a reporter in Sioux Falls, S.D. He has also worked in Raleigh, N.C.
“Journalism is about proper perspective and credibility. I can’t wait to get started with CBS47 and FOX30 Action News as we work to earn and keep that credibility,” said Bachman. “I look forward to getting out and getting to know the people of Jacksonville.”
Bachman will be moving to Jacksonville with his wife and three daughters.
