Mayo Clinic announced Sept. 28 the addition of a $70 million, 252-room Hilton hotel at its Jacksonville campus.

The project is expected to begin next summer with completion planned for early 2024, according to a news release.

The hotel will be built at the new Butler Boulevard entrance to the Mayo campus that is planned for completion next year.

The eight-story, 179,000-square-foot hotel is expected to operate under Hilton’s flagship brand, Hilton Hotels & Resorts. It would be the first to operate under that flag in Jacksonville.

The hotel is a collaboration of Concord Hospitality, Whitman Peterson and Mayo. Concord is a hotel management, ownership and development company. Whitman Peterson is a real estate private equity company.  The release said Dasburg Capital Partners LLC is an additional investor in the project.

“Mayo Clinic in Florida provides critical care to hundreds of thousands of patients every year, making this project all the more special and important to us,” Mark Laport, president and CEO of Concord Hospitality said in the release.

“We look forward to working alongside our longtime partner, Whitman Peterson, and Mayo Clinic to provide visitors to the area with a warm and welcoming place to stay during their visit.”

According to the Concord Hospitality website, its portfolio includes the Hyatt Place Jacksonville St. Johns Town Center and the Residence Inn Jacksonville Mayo Clinic Area.

The release said the hotel is expected to create 85 full-time and 40 part-time jobs.

Amenities will include a fitness center, restaurant and an outdoor pool.

It will feature 16,000 square feet of meeting space, including a main ballroom that can be divided into five spaces, a junior ballroom that splits into two spaces and three additional smaller meeting rooms.

In addition, 5,000 square feet of outdoor patio space is available for meetings, as well as a lawn area with room for a large tent.

DLR Group is the architect. The interior designer is HVS Design.

“For more than 100 years, Hilton has had a transformative positive impact in the communities where we live, work and travel,” said Hilton President and CEO Chris Nassetta in the release.

“We are delighted to partner with Concord Hospitality, Whitman Peterson and Mayo Clinic on this remarkable project to offer patients and their families our signature hospitality when they stay with us while receiving world-class care.”

The Hilton would again give the Mayo campus two hotels.

The Inn at Mayo Clinic closed and was demolished in 2019. The Courtyard by Marriott Jacksonville at the Mayo Clinic Campus/Beaches is operating.

“I had the privilege of developing another hotel on the campus over 35 years ago and now our partnership is bringing a whole new lodging facility to this world-class medical complex,” said Paul Novak, a managing director of Whitman Peterson.

“As a premier destination medical center, exceeding the current and future needs of our patients is our top priority,” Mayo Clinic Florida CEO Kent Thielen.

He said the hotel will “further enhance our patients’ experience when traveling to our campus for care.”
