Winter Park-based Foxtail Coffee Co. is opening two stores in Jacksonville.
They will be the East San Marco shopping center at 2039 Hendricks Ave. and in Ponte Vedra Beach, franchise owner Ty Claggett said.
Regency Centers Corp. announced the San Marco location Nov. 1.
“Foxtail Coffee is one of the top regional concepts when it comes to quality and product,” said Eric Apple, leasing agent at Regency Centers, in a statement.
“This store will be their first expansion into Jacksonville, and we were thrilled that they chose East San Marco to be a key part of their success here. They will be a true value-add to the community and the merchandising mix of the center.”
The franchise owners intend to open several locations.
“We have plans to introduce multiple Foxtail locations to Northeast Florida over the next few years,” Northeast Florida franchise owners Claggett and Doug Tutwiler said in a statement.
Foxtail will lease the 1,886-square-foot unit 70 facing Hendricks Avenue. The space is at the corner of Hendricks Avenue and Atlantic Boulevard.
Foxtail Coffee Co. was started by Alex Tchekmeian and Iain Yeakle, friends who met as kindergartners in South Florida, according to the company website.
It began in 2016 in the 70-year-old State Auto Body building in Winter Park. There, they began roasting coffee to sell to individual customers and commercial accounts. An on-site coffee shop also was built.
The company sells cold coffee as well as at-home brewers and accessories.
The website shows 26 Foxtail Coffee locations, most in Central Florida.
There are six roasted coffee varieties for purchase on the website. The company uses Arabica coffee beans, native to Yemen and Ethiopia, but are grown in several countries around the world.
The company says that the beans it purchases are grown by farmers who respect the environment and pay fair wages.
Regency Centers Corp. broke ground for the East San Marco shopping center on Feb. 16, 2021, after 20 years of planning, economic downturns, and partnership changes.
It will be anchored by a 60,000-square-foot Publix Super Markets Inc. store. Orange Theory Fitness was announced as one of its first tenants.
Construction is expected to be completed in mid-2022.
