• Mayor John Peyton made a speedy exit after the City Council installation ceremony Thursday evening. Word is he wanted to get home to be with his expectant wife.

• The Jacksonville Airport Authority is looking into realigning a portion of Pecan Park Road in order to build the north end of International Airport Boulevard. The project is part of the Authority’s Master Plan for airport expansion. A public hearing on the matter is set for July 14 in the training room at the JAA admin building.

• Downtown Vision Inc. needs your help. Thursday, they are collecting retired cell phones and ink cartridges as part of the American Legion’s Soldiers 4 Soldiers donation program. • Big international gathering here in October. The International Alliance for Women is holding its 25th annual conference in Jacksonville at the Omni Oct. 19-22. They have asked City Council member Elaine Brown to facilitate one of the panel discussions.

• Speaking of Council, it was moving day last Friday for a few. New Council President Kevin Hyde, VP Michael Corrigan and Brown all relocated. Hyde’s and Corrigan’s offices got a new coat of paint, too. Brown’s husband, Dick (a former Council member himself), was helping out.

• One more from Council. It may be a two-week hiatus for all Council functions, the 19 Council aides will still be working — mostly catching up and taking calls from constituents.
