Circuit Judge David Gooding will retire effective Jan. 1, creating a vacancy on the bench.
Gov. Ron DeSantis has asked the 4th Judicial Circuit Nominating Commission to meet and provide him with names of qualified nominees for the vacancy, according to a news release from commission Chair Courtney Grimm.
The application form may be downloaded from The Florida Bar’s website at floridabar.org or the Office of the Governor at flgov.com.
Complete unredacted and redacted applications must be received by 5 p.m. Oct. 12 in PDF format, including a digital photograph, via email to: [email protected].

There is a new Judicial Appointment Application Form that must be submitted. Use of the previous application form, incomplete applications or applications submitted after the deadline will not be considered.
Interviews will be conducted Oct. 22 at the Duval County Courthouse.
Applicants must meet the qualifications for judges outlined in Article V, Section 8 of the Florida Constitution.
Personal information not subject to public disclosure should be redacted on a separate copy of the application as permitted by Section 119.071 of the Florida Statutes.
All proceedings of the Judicial Nominating Commission are open to the public except deliberations. Accordingly, applicants should not expect their application be kept confidential.
If an applicant is nominated, all materials attached to the original application will be submitted to the governor’s office.
