Artist Christina Foard arrived at City Hall Tuesday bearing a gift – one of her paintings she wanted to present to the people of Jacksonville. The 20-inch by 60-inch oil and acrylic on canvas is part of Foard’s “aerial landscapes” series which depicts her interpretations of well-known areas and landmarks as they appear from high above the ground.
Foard titled the City’s newest piece of public fine art, “Hemming Plaza-Jacksonville,” but when Mayor John Peyton accepted the gift on behalf of the people he declared, “That’s Laura Street. That’s one of our Downtown projects.”
Foard has also installed several of her paintings at Downtown Vision, Inc.’s office at the corner of Hogan and Adams streets. In addition to more of her aerial views there are also some examples of Foard’s “figurative symbolism” series. If the paintings looks familiar, you may have seen some of them last August when FNDR had an exhibit in the lobby at the Hyatt. She has also exhibited locally at the Bank of America Gallery, the Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens, the Ponte Vedra Cultural Center, the FSCJ Kent Campus Gallery and the Women’s Center of Jacksonville. DVI Director of Marketing Pamela Elms (above) said having Foard’s work displayed in the office makes DVI part of the “Off the Grid” initiative that’s bringing artists and more art Downtown.
