Amazon.com posting Jacksonville jobs

By Karen Brune Mathis, Editor

And so it begins.

Amazon.com is hiring in Jacksonville.

The Seattle-based Internet retailer has posted at least 14 job openings for management and operations positions, including area manager.

The bulk of warehouse hiring is expected to start this summer, with job fairs in July, said Candace Moody, vice president of CareerSource Northeast Florida.

For now, the supervisors and managers are being hired.

“They are getting in place the recruiting team and some of the supervisory positions are already filled,” she said.

Some of the postings date back to December, but several were posted in recent days at Amazon.com under its “careers” link.

Jobs found online Wednesday include:

Area manager; operations manager; injury prevention specialist; learning coordinator; part-time shift assistant; field quality assurance specialist, on road; senior staffing coordinator; staffing specialist – high volume hiring; workforce staffing manager – high volume; part-time shift assistant, logistics – military veterans; IT support technician; human resources business partner; and senior HR business partner.

Amazon will open two fulfillment centers in Jacksonville – a 1,500-job center for small items in Northwest Jacksonville near Jacksonville International Airport and a 1,200-job warehouse for large items at Cecil Commerce Center in West Jacksonville, according to city incentives legislation.

Those are expected to open this fall in time for the holiday season.

A 200-job sortation center also is under development in Westside Industrial Park.

It’s not known how many jobs the delivery station in North Jacksonville at Alta Lakes Commerce Center will create.

Amazon was expected to hire management and operations staff first, starting the process this spring.

City and state incentives were based on 825 operations level jobs – 500 in Northwest Jacksonville and 325 in Westside. Those will pay an average of $50,000 and more.

The bulk of the warehouse hiring is expected later and could pay $12-$15 an hour.

Moody said Amazon.com has been putting its management and supervisory team in place.

CareerSource will help with the large hiring events that are expected to be held near the two fulfilment centers.

“The majority of the warehouse associates are being hired in July,” Moody said.

She directs applicants to amazon.com/careers and to careersourcenortheastflorida.com.
