How did you get involved?

I got involved with JALA by reading an e-mail from the Jacksonville Bar Association. There are always opportunities to help, and they’re not too hard for area lawyers to find. The JBA does a great job of promoting community involvement among area lawyers, and the opportunities aren’t just limited to providing pro bono legal services (for those lawyers who want to get involved but don’t want to feel like they are “working” during their time off). I joined “The Crew” after reading “Running for My Life” by Warrick Dunn.

How can someone else get involved?

Find out what’s going on with the JBA. Or contact Kathy Para at kathy.para@jaxlegalaid.org

What have you learned/achieved through the experience?

Sometimes the most important thing you can do for somebody who has been wronged is to just listen to their story. Even though others may not think their problem is important, it is the most important thing to them at that moment. Knowing that somebody else thinks their problem is important too can be a relief in itself.

What was the last book you read or are reading?

Does Trawick’s “Florida Practice and Procedure” count? If not, I’ll have to say “The Ascent of Money: A Financial History of the World” by Niall Ferguson.

U.S. Senate:
Charlie Crist
Kendrick Meek
Marco Rubio
